CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE ENGAGED! I know this can be such an exciting time for you but it can also be very overwhelming. I have been in your shoes before and I just so happen to have grown up in the wedding industry AND now I am a wedding photographer. You can't get anymore expert than this hahaha. Okay I may not be wedding planner expert status but you get the idea. Here are a few of my tips on getting you started with your wedding planning!
1. FIGURE OUT YOUR BUDGET
We need to figure out what all we can afford and what is a priority on our wedding day. Do you have a dream venue in mind? Or maybe a live band you are a huge fan of and ABSOLUTELY NEED to play at your wedding? Figure out where your money will go and if you need to make some adjustments along the way.
2. CHOOSE YOUR VENUE
I highly recommend choosing your Venue first because that is where the whole thing is going to take place. If you don't have a venue or place to hold your wedding ceremony or reception, then you basically don't have a wedding! This will also most likely determine your official wedding date. So do some research online, ask your friends (or me) who they recommend, call around and get that venue locked down and secured asap! If possible, you should definitely go in and get a tour of the venue and ask all of the questions!
3. BOOK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Okay I may be biased because I am a wedding photographer myself but HEAR ME OUT. So much detail is going into your big day. Once your wedding day gets here, you will blink and the night will be over! Wedding photography is so important because when you blink, and your special day is done, you will need pictures to look back on and share with generations to come! I always look back on my wedding pictures and relive that beautiful day :)
P.S. You may be surprised how fast photographers get booked up!
This will also be a good time to get your engagement pictures set up so you can send out save-the-date announcements and wedding invitations! Oh! And get that guest list going!
4. WEDDING ATTIRE
This is probably the most fun part of the whole wedding planning process. It's the part where you get to try on a bunch of pretty dresses and then say yes to it! Get the tissues ready because sometimes it can be a beautiful and emotional experience for some!
5. FLORALS, CATERER, DJ, ENTERTAINMENT, ETC.
At this point, I'll leave it up to you. What is the most important thing to you? Bomb floral arrangements? A live band? Your favorite restaurant? Go crazy! I have a few recommendations if you are in the Billings, MT area if you need help!
Well there you have it. And just remember: This is just how I would have done it if I could go back. This is ultimately all up to you and what you think is the most important. I hope these tips help you and give you the motivation to get stuff DONE. And just remember, whatever you do, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Happy wedding planning!
